A few hundred people gathered downtown to watch seven ice carvers compete or to try the nine chilis offered by downtown restaurants, a market and a soup kitchen. Kelly Jae's Cafe won the popular vote among those who tasted and voted. Lies created the cartoon character out of 600 pounds of ice. GREG BEACHEY of New Paris was second and Andrew Thistlewaite was third. Their pieces are along Washington Street near Main Street, outside Mattern's Butcher Shop & Deli. Other pieces created for demonstration Friday night and Saturday are scattered throughout downtown.
