GALION -- January 5 might have been just another day on the calendar. "Galion 49, Upper Sandusky 41" might have looked like just another final score in the statewide wire roundup. Yet, for 11 players and a coaching staff, there was nothing ordinary about Jan. 5 or the outcome that night. It was the first time a Galion girls basketball team had won a Northern Ohio League game since 1999. "We wanted to change that record," senior guard Tiffany Reed said. At 153 games, the streak was so long junior Jessie Rodriguez was 4 the last time Galion won a conference game. The two freshmen on the roster, Jordan Kuns and PELTON BEACHY, were barely walking when that 42-36 victory over Bucyrus was recorded Jan. 23, 1999.
