Sam Beachy Homer AK

It's a half-hour boat ride from Homer, but it's a world away in many other respects. I'm talking about Halibut Cove, an idyllic little place just across Kachemak Bay.
In good weather the crossing can be like glass, according to our captain SAM BEACHY -- who ferried us in a landing craft that looks like it could have withstood the rigors of D-Day and the beaches of Normandy.
As we approached the wild south end of the Kenai Peninsula, the seas became calm as if we'd entered a church building. The jungled walls of the cove dampened the sound of wind and waves, and the water stilled like a puddle after a rainstorm.
We docked near a small gray house on stilts, served by a long walkway from the double boathouse down on the water, and unloaded our three days of supplies before saying goodbye to Captain Beachy Click for all of the article and more great photos By Tim Akimoff Channel 2 News August 17, 2011.
