The former manager of a Massachusetts airport is now running Pearson Field, the city-owned airport that is part of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve.
Pearson’s history dates back to Sept. 19, 1905, when 18-year-old LINCOLN BEACHEY piloted a dirigible from Portland across the Columbia River to the polo grounds at Vancouver Barracks. Pearson Field is the oldest operating airfield in the United States.

We were rewarded with information about Hill Beachey. He was famous for much more than the capture of the men that murdered his friend Lloyd Magruder and his four men. He built the first hotel in Lewiston, and ran a stage coach line and much more. He was born in Lebanon Ohio in 1828, died in Marysville California 1875.

AUSTIN JAMES BEACHY

Born February 3, 2008. Parents are Eli & Jessica (Pottinger) Beachy, grand parents are Craig & Colleen (Froese) Beachy, both parents of Port Clements BC. Austin is the 9th generation of G, G, Grandson of Peter (Bitsche) Beachy who came to America from Switzerland in 1767, with his wife and three young sons. They first settled in Maryland, in time they moved to Pennsylvania. Today there are Beachys in many countries around the world. Imagine an oilseed, not part of the food chain, that can produce biodegradable plastic and improve the economics of making biodiesel. That is the vision of scientists at Cambridge, Mass.-based Metabolix Inc. and their research partners at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in Creve Coeur.
The collaboration "really speaks to the fact that the Danforth Center has grown up and developed in ways that the science is relevant to the translation of basic research" into commercial products, said its PRESIDENT ROGER BEACHY. "That's the mission … that we laid out years ago."
