Brandon Beachy KP Sportsman of the Year

Looking back over the past 12 months, it is clear that this year’s Kokomo Perspective Sportsman of the Year selection is the proverbial no-brainer. Northwestern High School graduate Brandon Beachy did what very few people ever have the opportunity to do. In a matter of months, Beachy went from AA baseball with a gig in the bullpen to starting one of the biggest games of the season for the Atlanta Braves. The season started for Beachy in the Deep South, where the right-hander earned a spot as relief pitcher for the Mississippi Braves. The season started a tad rough for Beachy, but he quickly became comfortable with his role on the team. Click here for more by Steve Geiselman December 30 2010. Kokomo Perspective

Ed Beechy St. Ignatius Montana

Ed is publishing a Garden Gazette
Dear Friends,
It's true! We've created a new gardening magazine that is just beginning to take root and I hope that it grows into somethings that we can all depend on. I've been gardening since I was big enough to pull weeds for mama and always wanted to share what I've learned. A magazine seemed like a logical place to do that. The Gazette will include more than just my advice. Yes, I will be including my own experiences about what has worked and what hasn't, but I'm also depending on other gardeners to share what they know.
It is incredibly rewarding to put a small seed into the earth and watch a green plan push through. Gardening is a therapy for the soul that reaps a bountiful harvest for your efforts. Keeping ahead of the weeds is hard work but seeing the regards of a beautifully cultivated garden is worth the effort. In reading the magazine, I hope you find a nugget of advice that helps you in your corner of the world.
Happy Growing Ed Beechy. Click here to web site.

Sheldon Beachy Homer Alaska, Beachy Construction

Despite one of the slowest summers on record for new residential construction, builders remain optimistic about surviving a downturn in new home building. "Overall, it's definitely slower," said SHELDON BEACHY, vice president of Beachy Construction. "We're thankful for what's going on." Beachy Construction just finished a home in Sunset View Estates started last year. Carpenters worked last week on framing walls and excavators did dirt work for another home in the area. Beachy Construction also is doing some additions and remodels of existing homes and a large commercial job for a fish packing plant in Nelson Lagoon on the Bering Sea.

Roger Beachy director of National Institute of Food and Agriculture

July 30, 2010
Agricultural science suffers from a "culture of neglect," said Roger Beachy, director of the National Institute of Food andAgriculture at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "Because we do not feel the hunger that gnaws at nearly a billion of the world’s citizens and because the few American farmers that feed America and much of the world are often out of sight and out of mind of urbanites," he said, "we have become complacent in the support and advocacy for agriculture research." As head of the federal government’s primary funder of agricultural research, Beachy said he is determined not "topreside over a flat budget and a research paradigm more suited to the 19th century than the 21st century." Brandon Beachy Atlanta Braves

Brandon Beachy had his first trouble as a starter and I wouldn't even consider it a bad start other than he didn't go more than 5 innings. I think, more importantly, is that he is throwing about 100 pitches a start each time out right now which means he just needs to manage his pitches better. He is striking out so many guys that it is running his pitch count up a bit. Click for more by yondaime4 July 21, 2010 12:28 AM EDT in Minor League Recaps

About 800 members of the International Association for Plant Biotechnology (IAPB) are attending all this week at the America’s Center. U.S. Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond called bringing biotechnology quickly into the developing world is a moral imperative.
Time is running out in various parts of the world and biotechnology is the critical answer to ensure that children don't go to bed on empty stomachs. They feel that about 800 million children go to bed hungry, every night. Several million of those same children die from nutrition-related illnesses every year
Bond praised Dr. Roger Beachy, the former president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center and now director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). He called Beachy one of the true pioneers of the movements worldwide. Click for complete article in the St. Louis Globe-Democrat Wednesday. June 9. 2010.
