Canada Day Thursday July 1, 2010
Labels:
History
Canada has a birthday on July 1st. Canada Day is a national holiday in Canada that is celebrated with family picnics, barbeques, and fireworks. Canada Day is always observed on July 1st unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day. A long time ago, Canada belonged to Great Britain. Over time, parts of the country joined together and wanted to form their own government.
On July 1, 1867, the British government (under Queen Victoria) approved a plan which allowed Canada to become an independent country with its own government. Click here for more details about Canada's Birthday.

Brandon Beachy Atlanta Braves 94 mph
Labels:
Baseball
Brandon Beachy has pitched so well that the Braves decided he needed some more innings. After tonight, his first start, he may get a lot more innings. He used a 94 mph fastball and mixed in a solid curve and changeup to dominate the Mudcats over 5 innings, striking out 7 and allowing just one run. He also managed to hit a home run at the plate, ironically enough in the top of the 6th, just before he was removed from the game. Jesus Sucrepicked a great time to go bonkers at the plate, with 7 hits in his first 3 games at AA. Click for more, by cbwilk on Jun 19, 2010 12:43 AM EDT in Minor League Recaps Talking Chop

Port Clements British Columbia, Colleen caught this 53 pound Halibut the weekend of June 12, 2010. On the same fishing trip they caught two different kinds of Salmon, besides this big Halibut. Fishing was good, weather was cold, windy and pouring rain. Last year Colleen's husband Craig caught a 214 pound Halibut in the same area. A picture of Craig, Colleen and the Halibut was posted on this site at that time, it is still there if you want to look back for it.
Eli Beachy and sons David and Austin
This picture taken second week in June 2010, Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia Canada.
Eli Beachy and his sons David and Austin are looking at a Fawn that is pretending to be hiding, or at least remaining motionless. This is pretty well their only defense when they are so tiny. I have been told they are odorless at this age as well. Thanks for sharing the picture.

The Cancer Society once a year has Relay for Life. It is a fund raiser for helping in cancer research and treatment for cancer patients. The above picture is of Glen Beachy in yellow shirt, which the cancer survivors wore. The "Survivors Walk" was lead by a member of the RCMP followed by a pipe band. The second time around the survivors were joined by family members and friends. Believe me it is a good feeling to be marching with my wife Melba along with family and friends.

Family Business
Peachey, 43, an Amishman who lives with his wife and seven children on a three-acre spread in Belleville, said he thought long and hard about whether he wanted to remain in the business of breeding and selling Yorkshire and Boston terriers, Maltese, and "morkies" (a trendy Yorkie-Maltese mix). He had always run a clean kennel, meeting and sometimes exceeding existing standards and taking good care of his dogs, according to state dog warden Melissa Bair, who has inspected the facility for years. About 800 members of the International Association for Plant Biotechnology (IAPB) are attending all this week at the America’s Center. U.S. Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond called bringing biotechnology quickly into the developing world is a moral imperative.
Time is running out in various parts of the world and biotechnology is the critical answer to ensure that children don't go to bed on empty stomachs. They feel that about 800 million children go to bed hungry, every night. Several million of those same children die from nutrition-related illnesses every year
Bond praised Dr. Roger Beachy, the former president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center and now director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). He called Beachy one of the true pioneers of the movements worldwide. Click for complete article in the St. Louis Globe-Democrat Wednesday. June 9. 2010.
