Brandon Beachy KP Sportsman of the Year

Looking back over the past 12 months, it is clear that this year’s Kokomo Perspective Sportsman of the Year selection is the proverbial no-brainer. Northwestern High School graduate Brandon Beachy did what very few people ever have the opportunity to do. In a matter of months, Beachy went from AA baseball with a gig in the bullpen to starting one of the biggest games of the season for the Atlanta Braves. The season started for Beachy in the Deep South, where the right-hander earned a spot as relief pitcher for the Mississippi Braves. The season started a tad rough for Beachy, but he quickly became comfortable with his role on the team. Click here for more by Steve Geiselman December 30 2010. Kokomo Perspective

Rita Beachy - Joshua Cup Macon Georgia

Rita Beachy opened her coffee shop nearly 10 years ago, but she has never tried anything like this. Joshua Cup, at the corner of Orange Street and Washington Avenue in Macon, will be open 24 hours a day from Dec. 13-18. A lot of students drop by Beachy’s shop regularly, and the expanded hours are a way to cater to them, since many of them stay awake all night to study, she said. The shop was named for Joshua, a young leader during biblical times. Beachy and her husband opened the shop to serve the youth community in Macon. They wanted to operate a business that would help sponsor a now-defunct youth center in Macon. Click for article By Jenna Mink Macon Telegraph Dec 04, 2010 Picture credit Woody Marshall/The Telegraph
