Emma Beachy RN, Medical Mission Trip to Haiti

GOSHEN -- Local teams of volunteer health workers are "desperately disappointed" that planned medical relief trips to Haiti are being postponed due to dangerously volatile conditions and canceled flights into the earthquake-ravaged Caribbean island.
If plans come together, EMMA BEACHY, who is 55, will pay for her flight with an unexpected bonus check she received recently from Goshen General Hospital. It will be the nurse's first medical mission trip. "If we can get in there, can we even get out as planned? We just don't know. It's so huge, and we're so small, but we have a job to do," BEACHY said. "We want to fill our suitcases with as much supplies as we can. I think we'll take some MCC canned meat along, rolls of cheese, peanut butter, protein bars and lots of suturing materials for lacerations," she said.
