BERLIN OH -- The mantra at Hiland is "defense and rebounding wins championships. "With four state titles since 2000, (2000, 2005, '06 and '08), the Hawks should know what they are talking about. For years, Hiland has had a defensive stopper, a player coach Dave Schlabach would sic on the opposing team's top player and sit back and smile as his defender did her job, frustrating their opponent into submission. Lydia Miller and KRISTA BEECHY are two stoppers who quickly come to mind during the Hiland heydays, but many have relished the position over the years.
